I'm a Sculptor of toothpicks and I reference the orbits of the planets for my designs. When I build a piece I use anywhere from 20,000 to 1,000,000 toothpicks or more. Hot glue binds my work together like shining dew droplets in a huge tangled web. I associate sounds, numbers and letters as colors which I use to create order when building a sculpture. I'm fascinated by Pythagorean Triangles and Platonic Solids and currently read a lot of material on String Theory, Quantum Physics and Cosmology.
The artists who have influenced me the most are Tara Donovan, Dale Chihuly and Theo Jansen. I'm interested in construction and deconstruction of sculpture in nature and like the idea of my work slowly disintegrating into nature and becoming weather worn over time.
Currently my sculptures are made to be suspended from the ceiling with light filtering through them and casting long distorted shadows all around. They are sturdier than you would think and have been known to bounce on occasion, though I would rather they didn't do that so often!
